Twitter

This is a fun tool, however since you can enter no more than 140 words it is somewhat confirmed and limited if you want to share pertinent information. It reminds me of IM or text messaging, I tend to stay away from that because I am not good at interpreting abbreviatons/what they mean. While I was in Twitter adding my info and signing up...I neglected to take a good look at what other people posted. I tried to go back in but accessing it is REALLY slow right now. So I will try later.

Wikis2

I did not work with a team; however I did edit the Circulation Department portion of the Wiki and entered task that are assigned to each department member. I was a little frusturated with trying to copy, cut & paste (but maybe I need to familiarize myself with the edit tools a little bit more) and it took me a little bit more time then I thought to complete the edit, however the end results where well worth it. Wiki will be a great tool to use...but since we will have sharepoint I am curious as to which took Wiki or Sharepoint would be of a greater use to a branch/department. Who knows both might be of equal use each has its own strenght to offer.

Wikis1

I think that KRL, branch and deparmtent Wiki pages would be great to have as long as they are well maintianed and up to date. My only concern is that since anyone can edit and add to them, then a system should be put into place to verify and make sure that all information avialable on any KRL Wiki is accurate and up to date.

I often find that Wiki pages are too busy for me...too much information jumping out at me at one time. They often appear cluttered to me. However, once I spend time familiarizing myself with a Wiki I usually find the information that I need and that is the most important factor and what a Wiki is all about.

I think a good idea for a Wiki would be a SNAGS Wiki; that way each branch personnell that manages SNAGS can better communicate with other SNAG personnell to address & resolve SNAG issues faster and more efficiently; thus increasing better customer service.

Facebook - Social Networking

I think that libraries should not limit themselves when it comes to social networking; most libraries provided access to social networking tools and should participate using the tools themsleves. This will assist libraries in gathering/maintaining information on what interest people, the fades, social and moral concerns, what people value and find entertaining. Libraries can use this information with a focus on deomographics

Social networking is going to be done/accessed at home, school, work etc. etc. However I do thingk that it would be nice if libraries formulated or provided a classes on social networking safely on the web. Classes can be geared towards teens, parents and seniors.

You Tube

In You Tubes popularity it seems to be a source of entertainment as opposed to information...but some people might view entertainment as information or might disagree with me as to what entertainment or information is.

I do appreciate the fact that instruction videos can be used for training purposes; such as..."Properly Packing a Shipment Box". (By the way I found Dottie Mae, Joe and ecteras instruction to be rather entertaining.)

Library Thing

Library Thing is a tool that I will regularly use. I found it to be user friendly and easy to customize.

I have been trying to keep my own personal book list; I have one filed in my email, on a word document and scraps of pieces of paper. This makes allows a person to compile a list in on place keeping it private or to share their reading interest with others. I do not recall seeing an option to catagorize books; i.e. adult fiction, adult non-fiction, juveinile, children's etc. etc. However, I will look over the options a little bit more....and if this is not an option then maybe it can be added in the future. This would make a personal library easier to peruse.
